Boston Bruins Crochet Scarf

I'm taking a crochet class and this is the single crochet stitch homework.  I'm not loving crochet.  Maybe if it was a much thinner yarn.  Maybe if I knew more than one stitch :)  Anyway used up some left over yarn from another project.

More Canning

More canning today...starting to run out of the small jars and energy :)  Late last night I finished the second batch of Zuchinni Salsa.  I'm being told I'm "only" up to 6 months worth of salsa.  :)  Then this morning, I started out with making Dill Relish. That had to sit for two hours in the cool basement before I could finish the seasoning and the hot water bath. I'm going to use it to jazz up tuna salads and use on top of hotdogs.  Camping trip coming up :)  The the last thing I made was the Summer Squash pickles.  That might make a good side dish with some ham.  I'm trying to find the Ball Recipes to share with you for but none of them are on their website.  I'm getting them all from their recipe book "The Complete Book of Home Preserving" (2006)

Zucchini and Pineapple Jam

So last night after the second batch of salsa was prepped and chilling, I thought I'd make a batch of bread and butter pickles but I was starting to fade and went with an easier recipe...something that didn't require a water bath...because at that point after making zucchini salsa batch 1, prepping zucchini salsa batch 2, the kitchen was a wreck and I needed a bath more than my pickled cucumbers. So instead I made a quicker, less work intensive Zucchini Pineapple Jam.  I'll find the link for the recipe soon and update it.

Zucchini Salsa

I have to make this every year.  Did not put up enough last year to make it through the entire winter and spring so this year I've been made to promise I will not give any away.  Yeah right :)  Someone in this house is getting a little possessive about his salsa :)  It's a two day process...it has to sit in the fridge overnight doing its thing and then you can finish the seasoning, cooking and processing the next day.  I put a second batch to sit in the fridge last night....so batch #2 will be done tomorrow.

Homemade Strawberry and Raspberry Icecream

I modified this recipe.  Basically, cream and sugar and whatever flavor you want to toss in there.  http://www.serving-ice-cream.com/blackberry-ice-cream.html

Raised Hay Garden Update

A while back I saw an idea on Pinterest of using bales of hay to make a raised bed garden. I gave it a try and it's working out great.  It's like the perfect way to garden anywhere.  I'd rather do this than kill myself digging up dirt in the back yard which probably isn't even good dirt to begin with :)

The pickling cucumbers are already here and the eggplant are just starting :)

This was the before picture.  I bought too many plants at the local garden store and had to do something with them.
This was yesterday.  The plants are growing through the fence and out of the garden.  :)
Pickling cucumbers almost ready to be pickled :)
Definitely doing this again next summer :)  But BIGGER :)

Hitchhiker Shawl/Scarf in Cotton

A scarf for a West Coast friend.  She and her husband own a boat.....and I liked the water-y colors for her.  The pattern is Hitchhiker by Martina Behm.  You can get it on Raverly.  It's approx. $3.50.  The yarn I got at Michael's.  It's a sport weight cotton blend called Cotton Fair by Premier Yarns.  The price is fantastic and it is really really nice yarn.  I'm using it to make chemo caps too.
