Just noticed my blog went over 100,000 page views.  Thanks followers public and mysterious.

Norah Gaughan Lecture

I'm lucky enough to live driving distance to Webs (yarn.com) in Northampton, MA.  Today I attended a design lecture and trunk show with knitting wonder Norah Gaughan.  I absolutely adore her designs even if they are above my expertise level.  Her cable work is amazing.

The most fascinating part for me was getting into the head of a designer and how she thinks out her creations.  What I didn't know was that the designer makes just one of her creations in one size and then her pattern for that one size is sent off to a technical writer who...God bless....comes up with the other six sizes.  I can't even imagine what that job must be like.  It was really interesting when she told us about her designing experience for Donna Karan and other clothing companies.

After the lecture we got to try on the items in her new book Norah Gaughan Vol. 16.  Prime Meridian.  They are all made out of Berroco yarns (one of my favorites).  The pattern I think I would start with is "Calpe". I tried that one on in a beautiful charcoal gray Berroco Linus yarn.  Totally soft and yummy. In Vol. 15 Maritime Journey "Halyard," "Hoist" and "Ropewalk" are beautiful....but I'd probably start with the slouchy hat "Mooring" on the back cover.

I won Vol. 15 and 16 as a door prize in a cute little project bag.  Way cool.  I missed the Bruins Flyers but it was worth it ...besides the game repeats in 20 minutes and they won :)

North Sea Shawl in the works

Working on another Cheryl Oberle pattern from her "Folk Shawls". This one is her North Sea Shawl in her Scotland chapter.  I'm using a 4 ply Seven Sisters fingering weight merino blend.  The color is Havran....very denimy looking.
